About Us
New clothing, hygiene products, and confidence for elementary students
Our Mission
Fitting Futures (formerly known as The White Cane Foundation) is here to provide students with basic needs — new clothing, shoes, and hygiene products — through a year-round consistent presence in Lincoln’s highest-need elementary schools. Our process ensures that each youngster we help is treated with respect, maintaining their dignity and ensuring the best experience possible. They get to choose their clothing, try it on, and get the look and fit they really like. This empowers them to go out in the world with confidence, so they can focus on learning and becoming their very best selves!
Core Values
- Act with dignity, grace and compassion.
- Be present.
- Bring the joy.
- Be open and accepting of others.

How it all started
Our organization started as a mission of love, with a name that was deeply personal to co-founders Kelly and Dave Lauer: the White Cane Foundation.
As our mission and audience grew, however, the organization found itself answering the same questions over and over: Do you help the blind and vision-impaired? Are there other medical connotations associated with the name?
So the decision was made to update the name to something more connected to our mission: Delivering ALL NEW clothing, shoes, and hygiene products to Lincoln’s highest-need elementary school students, giving them confidence and dignity that helps them learn, grow, and become their very best selves.
During a personalized shopping experience, the kids get to try on these clothes, ensuring they fit. Their increased confidence helps them envision a better future for themselves.
Yeah, Fitting Futures really is a nice fit.
